YOUTH ACTIVITIES
Harbor House Community Service Center is a non-profit organization offering a diversity of quality services that conserve and enrich the quality of life on Mount Desert Island. Founded in 1965, Harbor House is the primary recreational resource for the towns of Southwest Harbor and Tremont, offering programs in the areas of sports and recreation, health and fitness, childcare, sailing and maritime activities, youth center and education for all ages from toddlers to senior citizens.
Additionally, Harbor House organizes many community events including the annual "Quietside" Festival, a Holiday Bazaar, the Tremont Trot Road Race, the Great Harbor Shootout Basketball Tournament, and the Westside Ride Bike Race. It is well supported by the community and programs which are open to all residents and visitors to Mount Desert Island.
Looking for an enjoyable time for your children this summer? Harbor House Community Service Center of Southwest Harbor & Tremont provides programs for all ages that are challenging, enriching, enjoyable and open to ages 3 through 15. Programs are scheduled to start June 26, daily from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. M - F with a variety of activities and field trips. To participate in any of these programs you must pre-register by filling out the need application. Island transportation is provided.
Scamper Camp for ages 2-1/2 through 5 is located at the Harbor House Children's Center on the Herrick Road.
Explorer Camp for ages 6 through 8 is located in the old schoolhouse building on Main Street in Southwest Harbor.
MDI Sailing Center, another Harbor House program, is located at a facility at the harbor on the lower Clark Point Road. Age participation is 8 - 14 and sailing is taught by certified instructors in the waters of Southwest Harbor. Adult sailing classes are available two evenings a week. Registration is also required prior to the start of camp.
